My favourite photos from 2025
I'm sat here, in bed with a cup of coffee on New Years day going through my Lightroom catalog. I thought I’d try to choose a top ten from the year to reflect back on how my photography has progressed.
Firstly, selecting a top ten feels a bit daunting. Do I focus on which ones I think are technically a great photo? Ones that I think others would agree? Do I pick a favourite portrait, landscape etc?
Instead I’ve gone with thinking about which images immediately spring to mind, and why. Here they are.
Image one: kelly and pete at dear park (iphone 17 pro)
This image was shot at Deer Park, in the Olympic National Park (Washington, USA). These are two of our best friends who decided to get married in this epic landscape. We woke up early to catch the sunrise and followed them up to the top.
We were there for the ceremony and the amazing Sabrina Fitz captured the day for them. We were walking up to the those rocks for the exchange of vows.
Image two: It’s a sign (FUJI Xt5)
This was captured on London’s busy Oxford Street. We were out for the day and I was trying to get some street photography practice in (which I love but also find intimidating sometimes).
As we were walking past I just noticed the contrast of the situation of a preacher pushing a message and the massive Nike advert telling you to run behind him. It’s the first photo where I’ve noticed humour at play in a split second and that’s why it’s stuck in my mind.
Image three: Spiritbox at Allexandra palace (Sony RX100)
I’ve waited years for the chance to see Spritbox, a metal band from Canada after first hearing their song Circle With Me and being blown away by the combo of the lead singer’s melodic voice that can snap into a guttural scream.
I shot this on my Sony RX100 (M1) given that you’re not allowed to bring in detachable lens cameras as an audience member. It’s been a great companion for these instances and I’m still surprised at how well it does given it was launched in 2012.
Image four: reflections at the barbican (Sony RX100)
Me and my wife Bex had gone to see the “I’m Not Okay” Emo exhibition at the Barbican, as one of the many things we share is a love for sad songs from he naughties.
This shot was taken on one of the staircases on my Sony RX100. She was gazing out and I clocked the ghostly reflection effect the windows were giving.
Image five: two laughing grandads (FuJI XT5)
Our friend’s Jen and Daniel were having a baby shower type celebration with friends and family, so I brought along my camera to capture some nice moments with everyone on the day.
Their son (and our godson) Reggie went running over to his two Grandad’s, and I love this photo because it’s just so wholesome. Being able to share images like this with people is one of the reasons why I take photos.
Image six: john (FUJI XT5)
John is our friend Emily’s Dad and an utter legend (he’s a master of counter surveillance and did a project to reverse engineer a Cold War mystery).
Every year he’s booked a family trip to Portscatho in Cornwall, and this time round we came along for the ride. We took a trip out on his boat to inspect the lobster pots… In one wasn’t a two clawed crustacean but an Octopus (that we released back into the sea).
This was the moment when he realised what he had caught an octopus for the first time.
Image seven: jess (FUJI XT5)
We were reunited with our friend Jess after her 6 month trip in India in the summer for a get together for some of the infamous Barnard BBQ food. This was the moment we realised she probably wouldn’t make the sharp shooting team.
This photo sticks out because there were a lot of laughs that day, and it’s a reminder of why I bring my camera along with me for the everyday to capture and document stuff like this.
Image eight: isla (FUJI XT5)
Running with the portrait theme, we met our friends Gordon and Louise’s daughter Isla for the first the time in London, along with an overdue catchup with our friend Adam who was back from Canada.
We had just left the restaurant and she looked cool as rocking those flowery sunglasses!
Image nine: loch an eilein (FUJI XT5)
A hike we did (I think on Christmas Eve) and around Loch an Eilein up in the Scottish Highlands. At the top was just this epic frosty landscape that my friend Jess said “that’s a windows screensaver”.
Image Ten: i’ll bring you flowers (FUJI Xt5)
I’m tailing this post with the first image. I shot this at the Pike Place flower market where Kelly selected her wedding bouquet.
There was a lot to shoot at Pike Place, but it was overwhelmingly busy and frantic, which sometimes made it hard to figure out what to focus on. It was a sea of colour and this very calm looking woman preparing flowers caught my eye.
